Focus On Your Systems for Actual Change

I’ve been reading Atomic Habits, by James Clear, a book about making effective habit change and getting sustainable results through the process of implementing small, continuous improvements. One thing he talks about is the importance of SYSTEMS.

As a mom, household manager, self healer, and coach for others on their healing journeys, I LOVE systems! It has been so empowering for me to discover the joy of shape-shifting my life in the direction of my desires (and watching my clients do the same) …all because we are creating and refining SYSTEMS that make our desires more possible.

James Clear writes, “Goals are about the results we want to achieve. Systems are about the process that lead to those results.”

I love this distinction and in my own personal experience, it’s really the systems that make all the difference.

When it comes to health and wellness, I believe systems are absolutely the key. Clarifying goals or intentions is an important piece. But then it's time to shift focus to the experimentation and creation of systems that move us toward what we want.

For example, if I want to get stronger in my body, I can first name and claim this goal. “Yes, this is important to me!” But then, rather than keep fixating on the goal itself, I’m best off to start putting my attention toward the nuts and bolts of the process … one, small step at a time.

What are some realistic actions I can take? What’s doable? What steps can I automate so that I establish a flow, a rhythm, a system, that genuinely helps me get stronger?

Effective systems bring sustainable, long lasting results.

What I also love about systems is that there’s a sense of creativity, purpose, and enjoyment in this process rather than withholding satisfaction until a goal is reached. Enjoy the process, right?

What systems are already working for you that support your health? What rhythmic actions are set in motion that make the path to your desired health results more possible? What tangible structures are moving you toward thrive?

And … do you have any new ideas that you want to experiment with?
